Dear Jack,

I’m glad to hear that you have enjoyed Knucklehead so much. Jon Scieszka is a very talented writer who really makes his readers feel like they’re right there alongside the Scieszka boys on all their adventures and crazy escapades. It’s always a lot of fun to smile and laugh when you read. You may wish to read more of Scieszka.

I can tell you like funny books because you’ve read the DWK series. Jeff Kinney and Jon Scieszka seem to have a similar sense of humor. They both like traditional “boy” jokes and enjoy things that have to do with destroying things. They create characters who manage to get into all kinds of mischief and somehow seem to survive for the better. What other funny books have you read? Have you ever seen the Guys Read website? There are so many interesting things to explore, and it features a book of the month, which is really helpful in picking out new books to read.

I think you might like books by Gary Paulsen. He writes about survival. His characters have to endure incredibly difficult circumstances just to get out of wherever they are alive. Hatchet is an exciting story about a boy who survives a plane crash and only has a hatchet to help him survive in the wilderness of northern Canada. Check it out.

Right now I am listening to the biography of Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Computers. It is a fascinating story, because the reader learns all kinds of interesting details about the life of this true genius. For example, many times, if he didn’t get what he wanted, he would scream and cry, even as an adult. This tantrum-like behavior was upsetting to a lot of people, who would just kind of give in to him to avoid provoking any further reactions like this. I never would have imagined that he would behave this way. I look forward to hearing more about how Steve acted and what made him so unique.
